| Lake Placid, NY- The Gordon Companies, based
in Albany, NY broke ground today on a new Courtyard by Marriott
hotel in scenic Lake Placid. The Gordon Companies, owned by David
and Jeffrey Gordon, are excited to bring the Marriott name to Lake
Placid. Lake Placid, the only U.S city to host two Olympic games,
remains a tourist and event destination.
“With a brand like Marriott and the location and attraction
that Lake Placid is, we think it’s a successful partnership”, said
David Gordon.
David Schlosser of Schopfer Architects LLP in Syracuse, NY
designed the new 96-room hotel. The design brings an Adirondack
motif that was worked on with Schlosser and the Lake Placid/North
Elba Joint Review Board.
“I think it will absolutely fit well, Schlosser said. “I think
the review board is extremely pleased – it works well for all of
us.”

The building will be four stories and will feature a dormered
roof, a one-and-a-half story lounge with a fireplace, a meeting
room, high-speed Internet access, a heated pool, two jacuzzis and
possibly a spa. The hotel will serve a breakfast buffet, as well
as breakfast cooked-to-order, and may offer room service from
local outside restaurants.
“We are thrilled to be in Lake Placid. It’s a beautiful place
and we are excited to do business here”, added Jeffrey Gordon.
Gordon went on to mention that the hotel would add 22-30 jobs to
the area’s economy that are mostly full-time positions.
The hotel will be managed by Ocean Hospitalities of Portsmouth,
NH. Ocean manages over 120 hotels across the United States which
equates to almost 20,000 rooms.
The construction is scheduled to be finished in early fall of
2006 and will be completed by Bette & Cring of Latham, NY.
Courtyard by Marriott has hundreds of locations across the United
States as well as in 22 other countries. The Marriott brand
boasts names such as Ritz-Carlton, Marriott, Courtyard, and the
Residence Inn.
